The formulas
Since 1959 the international pound is defined as exactly 0.45359237 kg, so every imperial weight has an exact metric value.
- kg to lbs: divide by 0.45359237, or multiply by about 2.20462

Good to know
A quick mental shortcut: kg × 2.2 ≈ lbs, or double the kilograms and add 10 %. 70 kg → 140 + 14 = 154 lb. The ounce here is the avoirdupois ounce used for food and body weight; the troy ounce for gold and silver is heavier at 31.1 g. A US ton is 2,000 lb (907 kg), a metric ton 1,000 kg.
